From the hundreds of coffee types available, coffee drinkers prefer the flavors and quality of specialty coffee. Specialty coffee is the highest quality coffee available and obtains that designation based on scoring by professional graders.
At Primos Coffee Co, we import specialty coffee direct from our farm in the mountains of Jinotega, Nicaragua, roast it to order and sell the most freshly roasted specialty coffee available in Texas. Our specialty coffee is the best choice if you're looking for a premium, smooth, delicious coffee.
Grown in Nicaragua, Freshly Roasted in Texas
Direct From Our Farm To You
Primos Coffee operates under a direct trade model, meaning our coffee comes directly to you from our farm in Jinotega, Nicaragua. The direct trade model facilitates strong relationships with the end-consumer, our customer. As no middlemen are involved, we both benefit as we can provide you with a reasonable price while fully benefiting from your purchase, thereby positively impacting our farm.
This model also results in you having more control over your beans as you know from where they came and the farming, harvesting and processing methods, all of which should result in a higher quality cup of coffee.
Sustainable Farming Practices
Different elements can affect the quality and taste of coffee. Some of these factors cannot be changed, such as geographical location, altitude, and climate. However, there are other aspects we can control, including proper farming and harvesting, precise processing and suitable storage. We tightly manage all of these aspects to ensure great-tasting coffee while practicing the best standards for our fellow Nicaraguans and natural resources.
Our coffee cherries are harvested by hand and, at the end of each day, they are wet milled, and fermentation begins. Within 4 hours of being completely washed, our coffee is sun-drying on patios. Finally, our dried coffee beans are processed to a low defect specification.
We export only our best lots sealed in hermetic bags. We never hold past crops and maintain all our coffee in our climate-controlled facility near Houston.
Offering Only Arabica Specialty Coffee
There are two main species of coffee: Arabica and Robusta. All of our coffees are Arabica which are characterized by mildness, great flavor, and high quality. Robusta is more bitter and acidic than Arabica coffee. Robusta is less expensive to produce than Arabica and is frequently used in lower-grade blends due to its harsher flavors.
Certified tasters or accredited graders assess the flavor and quality of coffee. On a 100-point scale, specialty coffee scores 80 or higher.
